Over the last few years we've seen more and more people looking into bikes with no derailleurs. We've been building bikes equipped with Rohloff 14 speed hubs for several years now. In 2011, we became the largest builder of Rohloff equipped bicycles in the United States. The universe of derailleurless options is expanding, and so is our selection of Rodriguez MakeShift tandems.
A Rodriguez MakeShift tandem is Somethin' Special
At Rodriguez Bicycles, we know Rohloff, and Alfine equipped tandems. The MakeShift line of custom Rodriguez bicycles has become a standard of sorts in the industry, and one of our better selling models. We've developed and manufactured specific braze-on fittings,
dropouts, and other unique exclusive features
(like our stem mounted shifter doohickey) that make our Rohloff equipped bicycles something special. We are also the manufacturer and distributor of the
patented Bushnell eccentric chain adjuster (another huge favorite around the world with the derailleurless crowd), and a recommended component by Rohloff themselves.
Because of the unique Rodriguez internally geared bike features, our customers find our derailleurless bikes easier to use and travel with than other brands. A lot of Rodriguez MakeShift customers select the travel upgrade for ease of taking their bike on vacation with them. Just like all Rodriguez tandems, every MakeShift series tandem includes Free Custom Sizing (a $400+ upcharge in most brands).

The Rodriguez Double Roller Tandem - from $6,699
This is our classic 'direct internal' frame design that's built specifically for your fit and your needs. It's the perfect starting point for any hardcore tandem team.
A direct internal design means that the frame has a 'stiffener' tube running the distance between the rear bottom bracket and the head tube. This makes the frame more suitable for long distance riding while carrying heavy panniers than our custom ST design.
As you may or may not know, here at Rodriguez we've been building tandems since 1973! That's before most of you graduated from high school. Now you can get all of that tandem experience combined with the Rohloff Speedhub for a price that can't be beat!
The Rodriguez Eight-Ball MakeShift - from $8,499 (in design #3)
The Rodriguez Eight-Ball is unique in the cycling world. This tandem converts from a bicyle for two into a bicycle for one by removing the middle of the frame and setting it up once the frame is apart. This takes only a few minutes (once you've had some practice). As if that wasn't cool enough, you can take the frame apart to get it into cases that are safe and secure, and small enough for air travel! With the addition of the Rohloff Speedhub, packing and reassembling gets even easier!
